“Service Above Self” is the principal motto of Rotary International. Each club undertakes service projects to improve the lives of others. From its inception Rotary found that providing service strengthened the bonds of friendship in the club. The reverse is also true: out of fellowship comes the desire and capacity to carry out acts of service.

San Bernardino Rotary particularly serves the youth in our community. We also provide support for teachers and join with other organizations in our community help the citizens of San Bernardino.  And, we join with more than a million other Rotarians around the world to improve the lives of children and mothers globally.

Our club’s signature project is called Rotary Life Scholars. It provides leadership skills training to high school students drawn from both public and private high schools in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. Its four-year curriculum carries students from their freshman through their senior year and provides a scholarship upon graduation.

We also carry out a Dictionary project for all third graders in the city's school district (more than 4,000 students each year); send students to RYLA (Rotary’s weekend leadership program); hold an awards event to honor teachers in our school district; and provide grants to community organizations helping people in our community.

Our club joins in Rotary International’s signature project to eliminate the disease of polio world-wide. When Rotary started this effort in 1985, there were a thousand new cases of polio every single day--almost all in children age 5 and younger. Today there is only about 1 per day.  In the entire world, there were only 407 cases last year. And, we have promised the worlds' children that we won’t stop until the job is done.
