President's Message

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

I hope everyone made it through this very wet and rainy week without incident. The poor weather conditions forced a change in our plans for last Tuesday’s meeting. We were originally scheduled to hear from Past District Governor Marilyn Sanderson on the topic of “Rotary: Where We Belong” during a multi-club event at the Elks Lodge. However, due to dangerous driving conditions for our speaker who lives quite a distance away, the event has been postponed until March 26, 2024. As you might guess, this last minute change left us high and dry (or should it be wet?!) regarding our program for last Tuesday’s meeting.

Thankfully, our newest Rotarian Ladd Seekins came to our rescue! As many of you know, Ladd is our District 5330 Rotary Friendship Exchange chairperson. With less than one day’s notice, Ladd was kind enough to put together a wonderful presentation for our club (as well as three members of the San Bernardino Sunset Club who joined our meeting) on the topic of the Rotary Friendship Exchange program. Larry Asmus has participated in this program in the past, and hopefully we will see more involvement from our members in this fantastic opportunity in the future! Although there are no exchanges for our District in 2024, there are plans in the works for two exchanges in 2025. Stay tuned and see Ladd for additional details!

Special Valentine Theme Meeting This Week

Social Committee member and Rotarian extraordinaire Phyllis Kates is hard at work preparing a wonderful special event for us during our regular Rotary meeting this coming Tuesday at noon. As has been our tradition, we will be enjoying the fellowship and camaraderie of our fellow club members during a special Valentine-themed meeting this coming week. There will be no guest speaker and we will enjoy this opportunity to spend time together, have some fun, and enjoy the company of our fellow club members.

We’re Sweet on Soldiers Project – Last Chance!

Although we received some donations during our last meeting for this great project, I know there are others who were not able to bring their items due to the bad weather this past Tuesday. Remember, you can still donate the following items by bringing them directly to the security booth inside the Inland Center Mall by Tuesday, February 13:

  • Valentine’s Day cards
  • Thank you cards
  • Non-perishable foods
  • New personal care items (e.g., shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush)
  • Other new/unused helpful items such as socks, plain t-shirts, batteries, etc.

Thank you for your support of our club’s participation in this wonderful community service project!

President, Brian Pellis 2023-2024

Rotary Leadership Institute Part I – Online Next Weekend!
As you know, the Rotary Leadership Institute is a great way to learn about all things Rotary. The program is presented in three parts and you receive a certificate upon completion of the program. RLI is usually presented live four Saturdays a year in Beaumont. Parts I, II, and III are offered during each live presentation, so you can start/continue the program at any time.

This year, for the first time, District 5330 is offering an online version of RLI via Zoom!  The inaugural session is this coming this Friday and Saturday, February 16-17.  Friday’s session will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday’s session will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Both sessions are required to complete RLI – Part I. If the online program is a success, the District is considering offering Parts II and III online in the future as well!  For anyone who has had an interest in attending RLI but has not had the opportunity to do so due to the in-person requirements on Saturdays, this is a great opportunity to take part in a delightful program from the comfort of your own home.

Here are the class topics covered in RLI Part I:

My Leadership In Rotary: As a Rotarian, I am, by definition, a leader. Join us as we explore the characteristics of leadership, motivational techniques, and leadership styles. How do I best lead?

My Rotary World: As a Rotarian, I am part of a worldwide organization of like-minded people. Take some time to truly understand the purpose and structure of Rotary. Can these resources help me?

Ethics and Vocational Service: I am ethical, recognize and promote ethics in others, and seek opportunities to serve through my vocation. You can see that I am a Rotarian.

Foundation I: Our Foundation: I am “doing good” in my local community and around the world. Learn about the basic goals and programs of our Foundation. I am a force for good in the world!

Engaging Members: I make my club and Rotary stronger by my active participation. Engaged club members have fun, make friends, and effectively serve. This is why I joined Rotary!

Creating Service Projects: I am a vital part of a worldwide service organization of business, professional and community leaders meeting needs in communities. I can build, run and promote service.

There is no charge for the RLI online course held via Zoom.  Registration is available on DACdb and as always, I’m happy to help you register if needed.  If the online session does not work for you, there are still two live RLI sessions available this Rotary year on March 9 and May 11. See you there!
