President's Message

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

We had no meeting this past Tuesday as the Elks Lodge was closed.  I hope you all had an enjoyable week and I look forward to seeing you all again this coming Tuesday!

Multi-Club Meeting This Week

Assistant Governor and San Bernardino Rotarian Bill Orr has arranged a special treat for us this week!  Our meeting will be held as usual on Tuesday at noon at the Elks Lodge, but this week we will also be joined for lunch and fellowship by members of the other four local clubs in San Bernardino and Highland.  Our special guest speaker will be Past District Governor and current District Trainer Marilyn Sanderson, who will provide a presentation on “Rotary: Where We Belong.”

No February Board Meeting

We will not be having a board meeting as previously scheduled for February 6.  If anyone has any agenda items that need to be addressed before our next board meeting on March 5, please let me know!

We’re Sweet on Soldiers Project – Brings Your Donations THIS Tuesday!

Please remember to support the We’re Sweet on Soldiers Project and bring the following items to our next Rotary meeting this Tuesday:

  • Valentine’s Day cards
  • Thank you cards
  • Non-perishable foods
  • New personal care items (e.g., shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush)
  • Other new/unused helpful items such as socks, plain t-shirts, batteries, etc.

All donated items will be collected and later distributed to support local and overseas service personnel.  If you are unable to bring your items to the February 6 meeting, you may also drop them off at the Inland Center Mall security booth anytime through February 13th.

Please keep track of your donations and provide the following information to Terri Relf: (1) total cards donated and (2) total personal items donated.  Please be sure to count each item in a package separately.  For example, if you donate one package containing six t-shirts, that would be a total of six items donated. Thank you for your support of this great community service project!

February is Rotary Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month

This month, we spotlight one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus: Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention. Today, over 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations. Half of them are children. As Rotarians we do not accept conflict as a way of life and instead work to promote peace and prevent conflict.

Peace is a cornerstone of Rotary’s mission as a humanitarian organization. When people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect.  Our commitment to peacebuilding includes approaching the concept of peace with greater cohesion and inclusivity, broadening the scope of what we mean by peacebuilding, and finding more ways for people to get involved. Rotary creates environments where peace can happen.

Rotary projects also provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts. By carrying out service projects and by supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, Rotarians take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

Peace and conflict prevention begins with us, and as Rotarians unified together to promote positive change, we can have a powerful influence on our world.

President, Brian Pellis 2023-2024
